Always bring a city map with you. These will help and guide you wherever you are. It is not a good idea to just rely on taxi drivers. Some of them may take an advantage of you.
- Speak their language
Before leaving, make it sure that you know some basic and the most common questions you’re likely to ask a local.
- Secure your valuables
Don’t stand out. Look simple as much as possible. This will avoid muggers and pickpockets from attacking you.
- Go home early
Don’t scroll at night especially in darker areas. You don’t want to encounter the dangerous people around.
- Wear an appropriate dress
Know what the locals wear on a given time of day. This way, you’ll get a lesser attention and you don’t want to imply that you are a tourist.
- It is okay to ask for directions
Be wise in choosing who to ask because it is not too safe if you go and ask a complete stranger. If you are in a restaurant, you can politely ask the waiter or while at the hotel, you may ask the receptionist in the lobby. Make it sure that you have the complete information before you leave.
- Cash is good
Bring enough cash. In traveling, traveler’s checks and credit cards are your primary mode of payment but with a few extra dollars in your pocket is recommended. Not all stores accept cards and checks.

So what if you’re alone. Have fun with yourself. Make new friends. This is your opportunity to meet some locals and befriend them. Explore the beautiful places in the area. Eat in fancy restaurants. You have all the reasons to enjoy this trip.
